In June of 2016, RPK and Urban Systems created a popup beach out at Louise McKinney Riverfront Park.  From 11 am to 7 pm, our bright cheery beach towels, large umbrellas and palm trees were setup to encourage passersby to take a moment to pause and giggle, and maybe sit down and bask in the sunshine.  We also had boxes of chalk on hand for artists to doodle to their heart’s content.  Some of our guests came by bike and hung out to gaze across at the Edmonton Queen Riverboat.  Others brought snacks and turned the beautiful day into a picnic!

We certainly got the last laugh when in 2017 and 2018, the City’s Accidental Beach in Cloverdale became a big draw.  Will we be seeing a permanent beach along the North Saskatchewan River soon? Only time will tell.
